Death in battle

by Lexiemae   Sep 2, 2006

The cloud of dust encircles me
the darkness my only friend
A flash of light, a bloody scene
I pray for it to end

My ears are deafened by the boom
It all happened so fast
Bodies piled miles high
From the mighty blast

I search and scream for all my friends
I can't see through the smoke
I crawl through bodies on my chest
but not a one of them has spoke

Are you alive, are you still here?
No answer or reply
Why did I get left behind
all alone to die

I lie my head on my buddies chest
and wait for the final blow
I feel the tears fall to the ground
I whisper very low

Please don't leave me here tonight
I don't want to die
My wife expects home one day
I want to say goodbye

We are expecting this very day
a child of our own
I'll never see him walk and talk
I'll never see him grown

I hear them rushing from the East
I know I am going to die
I pray a quick and painless death
I am trying not to cry

I close my eyes and pray for death
for I know it is coming soon
I feel the jar and tremendous pain
The blood comes rushing too

My breath is short, my lips are parched
My eyes search through the night
I see the boy that took my life
And to him I say goodbye

I know he is the enemy
but I forgive him all the same
He finally took my life from me
though this war was all in vain
