He knew he'd had too much to drink, When he got into that car. He didn't think it mattered, though, He didn't plan to go too far. He kissed his wife goodbye, Then told his son, "Let's go." His wife stopped him at the door, And said, "Please try to drive slow." He promised that he'd try, Fully knowing that he wouldn't. Nothing bad would happen, He was so sure that it couldn't. They got onto the road, And made a quick right. He was going to drop his son off, At his friend's house that night. They got onto the highway, Speeding up a bit. He was back and forth between lanes, But he was used to it. Suddenly he crossed lanes, And hit an oncoming car. Neither were wearing seat belts, 'Cause they didn't plan on going far. The truck rolled and rolled, And finally came to a stop. The son was thrown down a steep hill, It was a horrendous drop. Because he didn't tense up, The driver made it through alright. But, he had to live with the fact, That he killed his son that night.
