The Allegory of the Wolf

by DeadandRotten   Sep 10, 2006

A young female wolf shakes off the snow that had fallen on her from the night before. She left her indentation in the ground from which she awoke. Walking from the shade into the light, she is blinded, but without wavering, she walks toward the river that trickles nearby. She left her paw prints in the melting snow. Reaching the river, she sits looking down into the river. Then, seeing her reflection she turns away. She walks to the nearest shaded part of the river, where there is no reflection and gets a drink. Thinking of her reflection, she jumps into the river. Emerging soaked, she swims up to the shore, gets out, and sprints to a sooty spot along the banks of the river and rolls. She gets up. She returns to the river side. Seeing her reflection, she was still not completely pleased. The now, sooty wolf stumbles up the shore into the bushes. Sitting in the shade, she watches the other wolves play in the sun. Hungry, the grimy wolf gets up to go share food with the others but thinks of their remarks to her earlier in life. She, then, returns to the bushes and begins to eat the leaves off the bush from which she hides behind. The leaves make her sick and change her once blue eyes to yellow. Instead of stopping she continues to eat the leaves. From far away, another she-wolf spots the mucky she-wolf hiding under the bushes. The other she-wolf is beautiful with fur of white and eyes of green. The gorgeous she-wolf walks into the bushes to the other filthy she-wolf, tempting her with the fresh meat out into the sun. The sick and dirty she-wolf is suddenly cured of her sickness because of walking into the sun. The soiled wolf can no longer see because of the dirt in her eyes. The gorgeous she-wolf guides her to the river. There she washes out the dirt from the others fur and then from the others eyes. The young she-wolf looks down into the river to see her fur bright, white like the beautiful she-wolf. At this instant, the young she-wolf looks up to the other she-wolf to see that the wolf who had helped her into the light is none other than the Queen of the Wolves, herself. The queen of the Wolves then invites her to join her clan. The other she-wolf is no longer hiding in the bushes, but she is helping other she-wolves out of the bushes into the light.
