Dream Within a Dream

by Ariel   Sep 14, 2006

Stop trying to escape, you told me
Sit back, relax, enjoy the ride
You're using fantasy as a way of escape
You're trying to live through something unreal
How could you see through me so quickly?

Sit down, you told me
Live a little
Stop playing your games, reading into your friends
Stop being such a cynic,
Looking for the evil in every intention,
The ulterior motive behind every smile.

Just take things as they come, you told me
Stop thinking so hard, just act
Live in the moment
Forget your inhibitions, forget what others think of you
And forget yourself and you can achieve something great

And you offered me a challenge:
I dare you, you said,
I dare you to move.
I dare you to leave your comfort zone,
To go out and do something insane
And I promise you,
I promise,
You'll be more alive in that one moment than you have been in your entire life.

I dare you, you said,
I dare you to speak.
Have your own opinions, your own ideas
Stop following the crowd and live for yourself
Keep your head up and don't deny a challenge
And you will see in yourself the person I've come to love.

And I looked at you, so confident,
and without speaking, told you how afraid I was.
You stood with me and held me close,
And in your confidence, your courage,
You asked me to dance

And so we did, seeing nothing but each other,
Dancing in the middle of a crowd to music only we could hear
And although they stared, you were right;
No longer living in a dream;
I was finally alive.
