Before The Promise

by Shan   Sep 19, 2006

(This is a Prequal to Pain's Promise. It's kinda long but please read this along with the other two poems (Pain's Promise and His Promise) that I wrote about the same couple!)

A boy and a girl,
Inseperable from the start.
His love was etched into her soul.
Her love was etched into his heart.
He promised her a lifetime of love.
A lifetime in his arms.
A lifetime of compassion.
A lifetime free of harm.
The promise ring on her finger,
Reminded them every day,
That they were meant to be together.
That their love was here to stay.
On their four year aniversary,
He asked her on a date.
She thought tonight was the night,
He'd confirm their fate.
Little did she know,
He had found another.
And tonight he'd break her heart,
When he told her of his new lover.
When she opened the door she was glowing.
Perfect from head to toe.
For a second he forgot why she was so happy.
It was because she did not know.
When they finished eating,
He gently took her hand.
He knew he had to tell her,
But she would never understand.
He looked into her eyes as he told her,

"I've loved you for so long,
But I've met another girl.
And now, this feels so wrong.
I don't want to hurt you.
But, this has to be the end.
For I no longer love you.
I see you as just a friend."

She couldn't believe his words.
This had to be a lie.
But she could see his words were true,
When she looked into his eyes.
Always highschool sweethearts.
And now in their senior year,
He'd ripped out her heart.
And made true her biggest fear.
She was too hurt to do anything.
She didn't even cry.
Instead she made him a single promise,
That very soon, She Would Die.
