My Heart is a Widow

by Kevin Fitz   Sep 26, 2006

My Heart is a Widow

escaping to the new sun rise at dawn
the memories are dead, buried, and gone
today, i will grasp all i can of what i call reality
and live what i call life with this new mentality

even though the dreams haunt me still
like a thief in the night that's in for the kill
my prayers lay me to rest in the night
in the fear that I won't wake to see daylight

drowning in my sleep to wake up in sweat
choking on thoughts put there by your silhouette
my widowed heart in someone else's chest
conform me to the old ways or lay me to rest

I'll still be searching for a heart depicted by your face
that won't leave me to die in the shadows of your grace.
