I saw a smile upon a Child

by Bethan   Oct 3, 2006

I saw a smile upon a child,
So innocent and so pure,
I couldn't help but wonder,
What they may soon endure,

For in that brief second,
I saw hope and pure elation,
The child knew no pain yet,
I prayed for its salvation,

For this child now so happy,
Will discover evils all around,
War, death and destruction,
Cities burnt to the ground,

They will see the true nature,
Of all that they hold dear,
And ask mummy and daddy,
Why did they bring her here,

I saw a smile upon a child,
And wished it were not so,
I wished to save its fragile heart,
from knowing what I know.

It's a harsh world to bring kids into nowadays, but they are our future.. Teach them well and maybe they can change the way of life in the future..
