Knowing I Don't Have a Place

by Elana Mazzarolo   Oct 3, 2006

It's so hard knowing what you want
And knowing I have no place;
Knowing I'm not in that picture you see
With that faraway look on your face.

It's hard sometimes to sacrifice,
To reconcile my heart with yours.
It seems like every dream I have,
Every hope ends with slamming doors.

It's so hard when everything you say,
When all the things that you do,
When the very way you live your life,
Are the things I love most about you.

It's hard exchanging friendly looks,
When you flash me a special smile,
When you're so strong and honourable,
Knowing you don't love me all the while.

You love me as a sister you say,
And that means so much to me.
It shows that you are noble and good,
A man of respect and integrity.

But there comes a time when a girl needs more,
She needs to know that you will fight...
For her heart, her devotion, and love,
A chivalrous, shining knight.

She needs to know she's special to you,
That you'll love and cherish her your whole life,
That you'll be her best friend, her husband,
That you want her alone for your wife.

So it hurts to harbour these things in my heart,
Knowing that you don't have a clue,
Knowing that your dreams do not include me,
And that I don't mean very much to you.

It hurts to know I'd give you my life,
I'd die for your love if need be,
For I'd be happy if only I knew,
That even for a moment of time you loved me.

It hurts to smile and hear your laugh,
To see the sparkle that lights your face,
Knowing what you want in life,
And knowing I have no place.
