Highschool

A battleground
Littered with broken dreams, promises, friendships
Hearts
Pieces scattered everywhere
Invisible to anyone who doesn't feel the pain of them.

Tears that would fill endless oceans
Streaming down from bloodshot eyes
Seeking out a light of happiness in the darkness
A light long ago extinguished.

Oaths and pacts shattered, insignificant
Brushed off with a careless wave
Half a shrug removes all security
Promises become nothing more then dust in the wind.

Friendships tossed aside like garbage
People shifting before your very eyes
Becoming strangers as you hold them within your grasp
Begging them not to leave.

Dreams smashed to bits with bitter reality
The only thing keeping you vaguely cheerful
Your future, endless possibilities
Becomes nothing, a dead end before its even happened.

As we learn, and age, we realize it was all for nothing
That no one ever really cared
All the pain and anguish, everyone tells you you'll get over it
After all, it was only highschool, right?
