Red Rain

by Beka   Oct 27, 2006

Looking out the window
Sitting here in my pretty white nightgown
Daddy is snoring
Rain rain, go away
"Do it now"
I hear in my head
"Do it now"

I run free as a dying bird
White nightgown flapping at my knees
I got out of the house so quiet
Like a little mouse
With this razor here in my hand
Quiet as a little mouse

Momma doesn't know I'm out here
In the middle of the street
She tells me not to play out here
In the middle of the street
She says I'm a freak
Funny funny funny she is when she's mad

Oh no, I'm all sodden through
Daddy forgot to lock the bathroom cabinet
Momma will be mad
'Cause he let me find the pointy things
They all think I'm crazy
And the pointy things too

Laugh laugh laugh loud
There's no one around to hear me
I'm out!
I haven't been out in so long...
Momma says, I'm not allowed around people
Momma says, I'm a burden
Momma says, if it wasn't for me
Her and Daddy would be happy
And he wouldn't drink, or hit us

"Do it now"
I hear in my head
"But it's raining"
"Do it now"
"But it's raining"
"DO IT NOW"
"DO IT NOW"

And so I lift up the sleeve
Of my pretty white nightgown

Holding the razor steady in one hand
Bare pale skin
Glowing there
In the middle of the street
I shake in the cold
And I shiver in the wind
And the rain falls down all around

I see my pretty white nightgown
Stained red from the blood
I fall to my knees
In the middle of the street
And I fall to my knees
In the middle of the street

I see black and then I see nothing
But my red red blood falls to the ground
Mixes with the rain
And swirls around
Around and around
Around and around
AROUND AND AROUND

And my pretty white nightgown
Is a pretty pink nightgown
Right out here in the middle of the street
