Chasing a Shadow

by SilenceInDecember   Oct 31, 2006

Like chasing a shadow I see from afar, I walk in your footsteps to know who you are
Looking for something that I'll never find, and piecing together your life in my mind

I walk the streets of your old hometown, take in the sights and take in the sounds
I'm thirty years late but you're still everywhere, I reach out for you but I'm just grabbing air
Picture and stories, all I remember, faded by time, so long ago
All those questions I wish I could ask you, all those answers I'll never know

When I was younger, I didn't need you, life was easy, times were good
Now I'm older, wish I was wiser, wish you'd taught me all that you could
Maybe I'm stronger, maybe I'm colder, either way I'm still on the run
Made my own way without a father, gave my best at being your daughter

All life comes and goes, all hearts overflow
Miss you now more than then, wish I knew you as a friend

When I out on a limb and I need you around, when I'm taking a fall or losing my ground
I know that you're here, helping me through, but there's nowhere to turn when I'm turning to you

Like chasing a shadow I see from afar, I walk in your footsteps to know who you are
Looking for something that I'll never find, and piecing together your life in my mind
All life comes and goes, all hearts overflow
I miss you now more than then, wish I knew you as a friend
