Exclusion

by .K.i.T.t.Y.   Nov 5, 2006

(Note: This poem was written from the idea of The Chinese Exclusion Act from around 1880's.)

Rejected Chinese from all rights,
Excluded only to be aliens,
To be ignored by those "Whites".

Separated from their family,
Working hard to support their loved ones,
Falling into an abyss of racism.
Forcing the Chinese to become discouraged,
And hopeless.

Those many years,
Caused much stress,
And scarred many souls.
Many families separated,
Aging without comfort.

The only communication,
Between America and China,
Came through letters,
Written and read,
By only those literate.

Only may hard work,
Bring families together,
To the "Land of Gold".
Only after the man
Becomes a merchant,
May his wife journey,
And start new life.

Though love remained
Within the minorities,
Youth was lost,
Beauty faded,
And regret gained.

The hatred against the Chinese,
The Chinese Exclusion Act,
Stole away all rights,
From those of "yellow-skin".
