The Checkout Man

Upon hearing from you, sir, I must say I am enthralled
That you knew about this interview before we even called
Nice to see you're in a suit, though you've neglected a tie
Having been here almost sixteen years I'd recommend a smile

Now do sit down, pull up a pew, make yourself at home
It would be appropriate to switch off your mobile phone
Would you like a drink? Tea or coffee? Perhaps a little wine?
Hahaha, thats our little joke, will nescafe be alright?

I see you've studied english, and you have a music degree
Myself? I studied science, a masters or as we say MSC
We like our little laughs here, it's like a family
If you ever have a problem, feel free to share with me

So why do you want to work here? What is it that you seek
Perhaps it is the honour of employee of the week?
We're all a jolly lot so really, I'm sure you'll fit in well
You look like a doer not a donter, really, I can tell

You'll be starting here next tuesday, from 4 til 9 p.m
I'll sit you next to barbara, she can be your special friend
Well I better be going, so little time, so much to do!
I hope you enjoy your life at asda, it was lovely meeting you!

    smiling throughout this entire read.
You capture my attention and you do it well deary.
I feel there is no topic that could be thrown your way that could hold you down. You excel in creativity and always feed my mind fantastic imagery.
Two thumbs up and a high five Katie !
    A wonderful read...

Last line I think you may have meant "it" instead of "I"

^^ LOL Katie! THis was an excellent poem it made me chuckle!! I love to write and read about random topics and this was one of them...very creative...you described an interveiw very well...did you get a new job or something? Or did you just happen to think of this as an "idea" ...Either way great writing! Very well described!

While n ot posted in the comedy section, this poem made me laugh in a way. You included the reader to feel that they were the one being talked to and the character speaking gave it humour and poetry lift.
Did you mean the 'm or did you mean I'm? That was the one thing I noticed well anyway other than that I liked it.

I'm not sure why I like this one, but I like it.

I feel that it has a deeper meaning to it. I'm not sure what, but, on the surface, it's just a man carrying on a conversation, but I feel something deeper.

    But interesting. I like it!
