I live in a city

by alone and above   Nov 9, 2006

I live in a city
without much scenery,
without much greenery
a city where people cog into machinery
but if you blur your eyes just right
theres something else in the distance
beauty

i live in a place without fresh water or clean air
i live in place where millions of us are actually thankful for our despair.

we drive giant machines from point A to point B
we imagine ourselves choosing our leaders
it makes us feel free

i live in world of glorified merchandise

by which my piers are hypnotized
they wear their clothes tight and cut their hair short

they have pets they keep on chains
and leashes they keep as pets
they have guilt ridden hobbies

ingesting regrets
they have thick gold chains
and shiny rocks that reflect...
those same self serving
nooses they tie around their necks

i live in a place where birds compete for branches
and fish for blue colored sea
i live in a place where almost every single body

is about whats best for me

i live in a place where a fire is cause for alarm
and rain cause for umbrellas
i live in a place where snow is cause for shovels
and the dirt considered dirty
i live in a place where every public park closes by 6:30

i live in a place where people picnic on cement streets
and believe it or not,
some of the cops have it in for the kids without cleats

i live in a city
without much scenery,
without much greenery
a city where people cog into machinery
but if you blur your eyes just right
theres something else
periphery
