My Special Friend

by dandy   Nov 12, 2006

My first shot at independence,
a turn at something great.
I never could have known
what kind of happiness would await.

The first time I sat upon his back
I felt so free and tall.
And from the way he carried me
I knew he'd never let me fall.

This horse was the first I rode
at farm that was called Paige Hill.
When I look back on those days
even now, I still feel that same thrill.

That special horse was my best friend
when I first went to that farm.
When he was around I felt safe and loved,
to me he never did harm.

Now, years later I look back on those days
and the wonderful times that were had.
Staring at pictures from better times passed
is bittersweetley happy and sad.

The day before last my special friend moved on
to the green pasture up in the sky.
It was all too sudden for him to leave,
I wasn't ready to say goodbye...

I will forever remember my special friend,
the one who bonded with me so quick.
May he gallop for eternity in the fields above,
Rest In Peace, my dear friend Slick.

Dedicated to the Toli family and all of us who knew and loved Slick. We have lost something great and he will be missed all :-(
