Finding Future Lost (Going Away)

by lunachan   Nov 29, 2006

We're growing up
getting long faces
wide shoulders
Breaking away.
We're creating ourselves
We're finding ourselves

We can't fit into laundry baskets anymore.
We can't ride on your back(s) anymore.

You no longer tuck us in
You no longer get us up
We pick out our own clothes
from the closet,
from the store

We can no longer be bribed with dessert
With a trip to the toy store

If we're home at all,
you have to yell.

Mommy's boy
Daddy's girl
They're growing up

Becoming each other
Becoming you.

Wearing beads,
wearing chains,
wearing hearts on sleeves.

We're going away.
