Your Pawn

by Daenerys Stormborn   Dec 4, 2006

Times have been hard
We've been through too much
For you to simply discard
And let us fall out of touch

But you're so selfish
And you're stubborn
If I had one wish
It would be for you to return

Take a look through my eyes
The beauty you choose to obliterate
The feelings that you chastise
Cast away and annihilate

For a cause unknown
Too scared to let yourself fall
Afraid you'll hit cold stone
No one to catch you at all

Your fear becomes your shadow
Nightmares of my lovely face
Allowing devotion to grow
The tension creates a space

A cushion that softens the pain
Making your image a ghost
The thoughts create a stain
And it's then I miss you the most

And it's then I know you're gone
Because this life is your game
In which my place remains a pawn
Protecting you from blame

Can't you see I'm running away?
The look you give me is blank
Can't you see I don't want to play?
I'm not okay with my rank

So I'm sorry for being misplaced
Through this hopeless encounter
Goodbye, don't look at my face
I'll leave my heart on the counter
