Face of a Dressed up Girl

by dandy   Dec 10, 2006

A dab of powder, a touch of blush
for the face of a dressed up girl.
Pink lip gloss and fragrance to finish,
her hair in big, loose curls.

Twirling in her purple dress
she admires the sparkles and gold shoes.
She lies and tells herself she's happy.
For now at least, she can hide her emotional bruise.

She looks into the mirror,
Cheeks pink and brown eyes bright.
She wants to look her best
so she'll have fun tonight.

The lights are dim and the music begins,
She dances along to the beat.
With a smile spread across her mouth
she tries her best to look complete.

Being asked to dance
she takes the new man's hand.
He leads her out onto the floor
and for a second, there they stand.

He gently takes a hold of her waist
as her arms go around his neck.
She smiles as he looks at her,
but inside she's a wreck.

She turns and walks away
when the next song has begun.
She takes a breath and gets a drink,
trying not to come undone.

She knows she's being dramatic,
dancing with a boy is not a sin.
Yet the tears begin to flow again
because that new boy wasn't him.

Hope you had fun at the dance, even as tough as it was to dance while these thoughts still fresh in your mind.
