Shades of Sadness

by Chelsea R.   Mar 26, 2004

I look in the mirror
the girl staring back at me
looks so alone
her eyes show the pain she's endured
no one's even there to dry her tears
she cries as she tells herself
all the horrible things she's done
she's no angel
just a sl*t to the rest of the world
every single step she takes is another mistake
she tries to turn to people
longing for comfort
the kind of comfort she finds only while she lets the blood run as she slits her wrists
tears streaming down her soft cheeks
she can't even remember the last time
there was a day she wanted to live
she looks for an escape
any way out of the nightmare she calls her life
everything she tries she fails at
always doing the wrong thing
no one really knows how she feels
deep down she wishes her smile wasn't fake
and she was just like all of the others
happy and laughing for real
not the painful smile or laugh
the kind that hurts because you know you wish
you could just die
cut deeper then ever and just let the blood drip
the emptiness she feels inside is overwhelming
not the kind she gets from not eating
a different emptiness
she tries to reach out
and feel loved
but no one understands
and anytime she loves
she just gets up only to be pushed down even harder
this girl in the mirror
she just wants to be happy
but there's always something in her way
blocking out the happiness
shutting the door in her face
she wants to reach the light
but to her its like there's no way out
she's stuck
stuck in a deep dark hole
filled with the hate of the world
the lost hopes, broken hearts, and shattered dreams
she's got nothing left to live for
yet she tries to be strong
keep on living her life of hate
hate for the world and the people in it
maybe they think she doesn't see
or maybe they all want her to notice
their hateful words
and how their eyes burn into her soul
scarring whats left of her broken heart
she tries to heal
the depression is too much
she can't live like this
no one feels this pain
all alone - left in the rain
this girl isn't a stranger in my eyes
can't you see
this girl is me
