The girl next door

Do you remember many years ago when we were young,
how we used to play together?

it seems like yesterday- the world of cotton candy and clowns
and summer days that never seemed to end
when we played hide'n'seek from 4O'Clock till dusk
then sat outside on someones steps and listened to the crickets
and slapped away the mosquitoes
and talked about our dreams of what we wanted to be when we grew up
until our mother called us in
and do you remember
that one winter it snowed
for days and days on end
and how we tryed to build an igloo
just like the Eskimos?
or how we made a game of raking leaves all up and down the street
till we made the biggest pile the world had ever seen
then jumped in it?
or the time we found where our moms were hiding the lemonade
and sold it to our neighbors?
And the grand day when finally
we got the training wheels off our bikes
and we were free to roam the world
in an afternoon
as long as we stayed
on our own street

but those days were long ago
and we grew up, as children do
until the day we assume we're
to old to play amid the trees on summer nights
and when i see you now
you've changed in way i cant explain
you're like a summer rose that blooms before its time
and falls a victim to
the February frost.

because the diploma in you're hand
and the acceptance in the mail
i guess you're finally happy
and I guess so am I
and i see you in you're bedroom window
watching the cars pass by
searching for your cab
and when it pulls up
i see you running for the door
a suitcase in each hand
and the car speeds away
and the girl nextdoor is gone

and i long once more
for the summer days
when i stood on you're steps
and banged on your door
and bade you to come outside to greet the afternoon's adventures

wont you come out to play, once more?
for we are still so young...

    Hey...
I liked your poem very much because I once felt the same way you did about a friend.
If you still liked to talk to her, I would write a letter. Perhaps including your poem?!
But always keep in mind.. you can't have friendship when there's only one person who feels like that...
But I loved your poem and will add it to my favorites if I have got enough time! Keep up the great work! =)
