Little Girl

by Taylor   Dec 22, 2006

Puzzle-pieces in the ground,
kids drawin with the colors of their voices,
with swirls of green and blue,
and dancing pinks and yellows in the sky

Playing marbles on the seashore,
wishing for rain with glass eyes
and crystal-lined pockets on her overalls.
watchin the shadows on the grass go by.

No one ever seems to listen
to the dreams of a little girl.

Poppies and purple petunias,
scraping the ground with golden shovels,
sad to see the sun set over the hills,
enough to make her sigh a song.

Today’s not coming tomorrow
as she lays her sleepy eyes
on the pillow of her cherry-blossom tree
filling the crossword puzzle of her mind.

No one ever seems to listen
to the dreams of a little girl.
