Open Arms

by the simple girl   Jan 3, 2007

That day...
It's still in my mind.
As clear as the sky,
On a Monday afternoon.
You told me,
That you were leaving.
You have to fight,
For what you knew was right.

War...
That is what took you away from me.
You fought to protect lives,
But I cannot help,
But wish you had never left.
For I had hoped,
That war would not be the answer.

Hatred...
That is what caused this.
This world should not be torn,
It separates so many families.
What can we do,
But lie and weep.
And wish things could be whole again.

A widow...
Thats what I am.
Here without you,
On this cold day,
In the middle of winter.
Inside my heart,
Is where you will always be.

Heaven...
Has welcomed you with open arms
And I am happy to know that you are safe.
Safe from this world.
Safe from the madness.
Safe from all harm.

Remember...
What life was,
With no war.
But then,
Has a time like that...
Ever existed?
