Earth-Bound Angel

by [a.i.n.s.l.e.y]   Jan 4, 2007

As I lay me down to sleep
A hidden angel calls to me
Ethereal vision of lambent light
She gazes calmly back at me

Heavenly luminescence surrounds
Her pale outstretched hand
But I can see something amiss
Is that a cut upon her wrist?

As I look closer I can see
Sadness writes a melody
Tearstains gently caress her face
Her hair is slack and out of place

Dress is torn and colours fade
Emerald eyes dim to grey
The lustre leaves her presence
Her true image is revealed

And her voice is silent still
As I take her weakened hand
A smile graces her haunted face
Her image fades and she is free

As I lay me down to sleep
A hidden angel calls to me
The mirror reflects my destiny
A fading earth-bound angel
