My Angel

by Doug   Mar 29, 2004

God sent to me an angel,
To watch over me in my hardest times.
You gave me the strength to never give up,
And coddled me in your arms.

My Angel, you gave up your wings for me.
They beat with the rhythm of your heart.
I will always keep these wings with me,
To always feel this precious love beating with my own.

Then you panicked and tried to run.
For you remembered an angel could die without her wings.
You fought a battle with my heart,
And I finally relinquished them, scarred and battered.

Spreading out those wings,
You soared through the skies.
Leaving me behind you,
With only a hopeless dream.

But I believe in my dreams,
And my ever growing feelings for you.
Wishing you could feel my heart still beating,
Beating so strongly for you.

And you are so far away,
Changing my longings to prayers for you.
You came back acknowledging the mistakes and the pain.
Embracing again, the rhythm of my heart.

Even after we made our mistakes,
I can still feel the pulse of two –
Beating as one heart alone.
I'll always know where to find you.

I put my hand on your shoulder giving you comfort and warmth.
We can still look into each other's eyes and understand.
The two of us have discovered a great strength called love;
Strong enough to keep an angel alive without her wings.

Now we've completely overcome our mistakes.
Those tattered wings beat with all their might,
To shake off all our sadness and pain to become pure again.
These wings will always be in my heart.

And the reflection of your eyes admiringly peering into mine,
Is forever etched into my memory of us.
This is our everlasting story of love.
This is our greatest strength, the will to never give up.

Our love beats to the rhythm of an angel's wings.
