Gold and Glitter

by AShatteredDream   Jan 9, 2007

When I painted the windows to hide,

You brought in the sunshine.

When I cried, you always knew how to make me laugh.

Through the storm and desert you have carried me,

Sheltering me with your smile.

Yet, every day I feel you slipping farther and father away.

Is all that so easily replaced with gold and glitter?

.

For what is a shell, when compared to a pearl?

So thus, what is a woman, who is still a girl,

standing in the shadow of beauty and love?

.

Through the storm and desert you have carried me,

Sheltering me with your smile.

Yet, every day I feel you slipping farther and father away.

Is all that so easily replaced with her gold and glitter?

And I dry my tears as I retreat back into the shadows,

Where I belong.

A creature of the shadows does not come into the light without paying a price.

So now, I let you go.

Just promise that when you are dancing in the land of gold and glitter…

That you'll think once of me.
The creature whose still here
Living in the land of shadows.
