Summer Sounds

by Corinne   Jan 10, 2007

The Cicadas sing so loudly
Drowning out all other sound
Except for the plane
Soaring, roaring overhead -
That noise is always around

The Dragonfly is so quiet
As it daintily deigns to alight
Upon a Lotus blossom
Pinker than pink
Then takes off again, in flight

But I have traveled all this way
With bulky binoculars in hand
Hoping that a Hummingbird
Or two, would appear
Just as I had planned

But obviously, they had other ideas
For I heard them snickering in a tree
Even nectary flowers
Of gorgeous hues
Couldn\'t coax them out of hiding for me
