Unworthy

I wander down this lonely road in such despair;
It has been so long since I've had one who cared,
Who would love me for who I am and not
For what I give to them each day or not.

But then one day, someone came to walk with me
To share this life's most grievous pain and misery,
Or, if the time was right, in joy and reverie;
She came beside me and now she will not leave.

She picks me up when I do feel so low
Her love to me doth she each day make known
She keeps me from the harm and pain of life,
With love and care through joy and strife

Should all this world its wealth and gold and jewels
Pass on from life and no more o'er us to rule,
Yet she would live fore'er with me in the sky;
She will live on through life she cannot die.

Though on this road at times I feel alone,
Yet she reminds me of how our love has grown;
She takes my hand and walks beside me in love,
Showing to me her care and her great love

No man on earth deserves the love she shows;
Her worth is far too great for man to know,
Yet I am no more worthy than all the rest;
Still she says that she thinks I'm the best

Tis enough to know that she desires my love for her,
Though I am least of all this world's best offers.
In all the world, its men and land and gold,
She would fain have me with her to grow old.

Each day I think of her and all the world grows still.
The road is less dreary, and she my heart doth fill
With songs of gladness, joy, happiness, and cheer.
When she's with me, no supposed danger will I fear.

How long shall we two souls apart be gone?
How long till these two mortals fore'er be one?
My soul it aches each day that we are double;
It will not rest till we are one and not a couple.

Alicia, my love, you are more than divine,
Than all the gods in this world I could find.
Your beauty is matchless, your love, eternal.
The life you bring is more than just supernal.

Each time I try to live without you, I am dead.
"Life without love is dead," It has been said.
So life without you, Alicia, my dear, is too.
I cannot go on until at last I am with you.
