Let Me Tell You a Story

by AliveAndEmpty   Jan 16, 2007

I've a story to tell
Listen well
I'll only tell it once

I'll tell you about a girl
A girl who was alone
Alone in her world
No friends
No life
And no passion for anything
Except her music
And her writing
And her God

A girl who hid herself
From the eyes of the world
She hid in her notebook
And her Bible
Living in that world
Being the girl
Everyone admired for her grades
And her talent
Yet they stayed clear of her
And never once
Acknowledged her existence
Unless forced

I'll tell you a story
About a girl
A girl who cried herself to sleep
Every night
Because she had no one to talk to
No one to confide in
No one to care

A girl who decided
One night
That enough was enough
She picked up the blade
And brought it to her throat
Wondering who
Who would regret treating her
The way they did
Who would notice that
She wasn't there in the morning

I'll tell you a story
About a girl
A girl who brought the blade
To her throat
And ran it across
Ready to die

A girl who, before she died
Wrote a note
A note that said...

'If you cared,
Maybe I'd be here,
Instead of dead,
In the sky,
But no one did,
No one knew,
And if they did,
Would they have cared?
That doesn't matter now,
All that does,
Is who will mourn,
And who doesn't care,
And who will notice,
Before being told,
That I'm not there,
And I never will be again.'

I'll tell you a story
About a girl
A girl who slit her throat
And lie on her bed
Waiting to die
Blood pouring out
Out of her throat onto her sheets
And she died

A girl whose mom was devastated
When she found her daughter's body
On the double bed
Her body sprawled across
A note on her pillow
A knife in her hand

A girl whose father didn't care
Was too immersed in his drinks
And work
And hatred
To even care that she was dead
Though he never cared
He was always horrible to her

Let me tell you a story
A story about a girl
A girl whose death caused devastation
Devastation throughout her home
Her school
And her community

Let me tell you a story
About a girl
Who lost the fight

This was so sad and heatbreaking, yet such a joy to read...
Even though it was a very graphic and cobtroversial poem, I loved every part of it.
I thought the imagery you used was astounding and I could feel the pain behind the words.
    Excellent work.
