If You Would

by dandy   Jan 21, 2007

If you would take a minute
to listen, you would see,
how much this isn't helping
and how much you're hurting me.

If you would really hear me,
not just watch my mouth move.
There's a chance this could get better,
but all you do is disapprove.

If you could start to let me go
a little more each day,
things might not be so difficult.
The pain might go away.

You think that I don't love him.
You say I should move on.
I'm not a child anymore and I'm sorry...
But this time you are wrong.

You can't relate to how I feel
or know how much it hurts to cry.
I've given up on getting you to see.
It's not worth another wasted try.

But try once more I will do.
I can't move on if I don't know.
Know that there's no chance at all
of forgiveness you may or may not show.

What seems right to you is not right to me,
I can't get you to understand.
I need to do what's right for me,
away from your commands.

So if you could step back for now,
to this hurt I will tend.
If you could let me do what I think is right,
I might be happy again.
