Poser

by I Hope You Choke   Jan 22, 2007

Tell me to grind,
Tell me to wear black.
A puppet on society's hand,
Never looking back.

A victim of peer pressure,
An invisible being.
Wanting to be heard,
Wanting to be seen.

So in order to live,
You have to change.
Your hobbies, your personality,
Maybe even your name.

But you give it all up,
You crave recognition.
Total domination
Is society's mission.

Lie to yourself,
And say that you need it.
And before you know it,
You'll start to believe it.

Transform yourself to a robot,
Just like everyone else.
Get false admiration,
Something you've never felt.

Get so damn afraid
Of being rejected.
That you'll do anything
To be accepted.

Do this to look cool,
Do this to look deep.
Go all the way home and drop your act,
And sit around and weep.

Afraid to be yourself,
To let the real you show.
Do the things you like in private,
So your peeps won't ever know.

You say you love rap,
When you can't stand the sh!t.
Smoke a cigarette,
When you truly despise it.

Act like a gangster,
A prep, a ditz.
Let your rep build up,
But that's just it.

Spend all your money,
Until its all gone.
Do things with your friends
That you know are wrong.

I'll sag,
I'll drink.
Get drunk,
Love pink.

Because who were you
Before you were this?
You were a nobody,
Hadn't had your first kiss.

Through lying,
And faking.
It's yours
For the taking.

A new person
That everyone adores.
A bit of everyone,
Until you're not you anymore.

I want to be skinny,
So I'll give up eating.
I want to be cool,
So I'll start cheating.

I wanna be a gangster,
So I'll wear diamonds and shades.
I wanna be a rebel,
So I'll start a raid.

But . . . who fu(king cares
About everyone's opinion?
And who needs the groupies,
And follower minions.

So pose if you want to,
And forget yourself slowly.
But just remember,
In the end, you'll be lonely.

The bigger they come,
The harder they fall.
And when they see through your act,
You'll lose it all.

All your "friends"
And your whole damn gang.
Will disappear,
As soon as they came.

And when they're all gone,
And you decide to stop.
You'll try to remember yourself,
And realize you forgot.
