Searching for Conviction

by Jacob M Parnell   Jan 24, 2007

Searching for conviction,
In a world untrue.
Avoiding gaudy fiction,
To gain an equitable view.

Looking for morality,
In a society that has decayed.
Ignoring daunting reality,
So I wont be afraid.

Life is a terrifying thing,
When you posses no creed.
When your afraid what each day will bring,
Perhaps faith is what I need.

Why are we here,
Is there really a purpose to survive.
When we all live in fear,
And claim to know what happens when we die.

Is everyone really sure,
That a God resides above.
I think religion is just a cure,
So all of us feel loved.

But I'm searching for that feeling,
So maybe God will come to me.
To show me that infamous healing.
And to finally set me free.

But until then I'll be searching for conviction.
Conviction that consumes me from within.
And if I forever live in affliction.
I will be ultimately content with my sin.

For I will know God isn't there.
He isn't watching me from above,
I lived this life in despair,
And I never knew the meaning of love...
