Things Not Seen

by Becca   Jan 26, 2007

You see
A normal family of five
Sitting down
To a normal dinner
At a normal table
In a normal house
And the normal family
Is all wearing normal smiles

But what you don't see
Is the alcohol
That the father
Is chugging down

You don't see the bruises
On the teenage girl's body
From her drunken father's
Heavy blows

You don't see
The scars
On the wrists of a broken boy
Made my his one and only friend
A sharp steel knife

You don't see
The drugs
The mother is secretly using
To kill herself

You don't see the smile
Upon the face
Of the not-so-clueless baby boy

You don't see
The broken hearts
Of five people
In a "normal" family
Sitting down
To a "normal"dinner
At a "normal" table
In a "normal" house
Wearing "normal" smiles

Just always remember
The most important things in life
Are the things not seen.
