Mistletoe: Oklahoma's State Flower

by Jenni   Feb 13, 2007

What an amazing wonder to find,
A flower can leave so much behind.
There are so many things to unfold,
Numerous secrets that are ages old.

It is held above so many doors,
People forget what it's there for.
To most it is a moment of bliss,
Underneath to share one single kiss.

At holidays it's hung with holly,
Making people feel so jolly.
This flower fills our hearts with glee
No wonder it's loved by so many!

Mistletoe is not easy to ignore,
You look at it and know what's in store.
It is not too difficult to find,
Memories this flower leaves behind.

Oklahoma's lovely state flower,
Can leave us with an inner power.
There is so much appreciation,
This flower's a favorite in the nation!

That was a really beautiful poem, your flow was great, and I had no idea that mistletoe was a state flower! I especially loved your poem because of how unique it is, and you left out cliché rhyming words. It was very enjoyable. Just one idea, when you say "People forget what it's there for." It doesn't really fit the poem... Because you say that, and then go into how much joy it brings people and how they kiss under it. So in the rest of the poem it certainly sounds like people know what it's there for. Other than that very nice job! 5/5
