Paper Valentine

by Lauren Waszkiewicz   Feb 15, 2007

Happy Valentine's Day Dear.
How Long it's been since we met.
On this day sixty-two years past,
Yet a day i will never forget.

Reminiscing on the distant past,
Brings crystal tears to my eyes.
Remembering that paper heart,
Seems to always make me cry.

You were such a beauty, perfection it's true.
Hair smooth and silky, the color of fire
Porcelain skin, and deep sapphire eyes
You became the object of my desire.

Average i was, never given even a glance.
Not a Valentine had i received in a long while
But you came over, with a heart in your hand.
and left on my face a permanent smile.

With that paper heart, i was given a chance
To prove to the world what i could be
a man, a lover, a good husband and father
To be with you was my true, and only destiny.

Years ticked by, but our love stayed strong
Through every obstacle that got in our way
You were the perfect wife, the perfect mom
You were my support through every day.

So now the sparkling snow falls,
Around your silent, perfect grave
I'll see you soon, but till then
Have a Happy Valentine's Day

End.

Even though I'm in a loving relationship, I dislike Valentines day, not because I'm bitter or anything, just because it's such an emotional day that while half the world is blissfully in love, the other half realise just how alone they are.
This was a nostalgic Valentines poem.
I loved the third stanza, it describes my nan perfectly the day she met my grandad, they have both passsed now though.
I know you were getting there in the second to last stanza, but I still feel the last stanza ends a bit abruptly.
    Thanks for sharing.
