Iridescent Pieces of Childhood

by Danielle   Feb 17, 2007

Opening the lid,
unwrapping the foil,
my anticipation unharnessed.

as i peel back the safety foil,
my childhood is unleashed,
grinning and giddy inside.

i take the little red wand inside my grown fingers,
and i don't seem to notice my hand,
as it appears to lose its agedness.

the liquid runs through my fingers,
a cold sensation that is slippery and wet,
as summer's day returns to me.

my happiness exudes from within me,
as i fill my lungs with the pure oxygen,
i let go ever so softly with a slow steady breath.

i watch as iridescent pieces of my childhood float around me,
they drift away into the peaceful horizon,
reminding me that all is not lost.

finishing, i replace the wand,
gently twist the memory bottle shut,
and quietly watch my hand return to its original form, smile intact.
