Summer Days

by wellthoughtoutwords   Feb 20, 2007

Drive down old country roads.
windows down; hair blowing everywhere.
cigarette held lazily between two fingers.
soothing music playing from the radio.
warm sunshine beating down from the sunroof.
take a long drag off the cigarette.
casually blow the smoke out the window.
curled up in the passenger seat.
smile over at the boy driving the car.
his cigarette dangling out the open window.
watch as he unconsciously plays with his lip ring.
run a hand through your hair.
put your bare feet on the dashboard.
he smiles at you and ruffles your hair.
you feel yourself laugh effortlessly.
you live for these long drives to nowhere.
few words are spoken.
but what is said is always remembered.
these lazy summer days slip by too quickly.
and you find yourself sitting in a classroom.
you gaze longingly out the window and wish again for summer.
