Semi Detatched

Completely different to my normal stuff. It's long, but feedback on this new style is appreciated.

My tongue swam in a pool of saliva
as I noticed the tea bag advert.
If only I could grab the mug from the image
and enjoy it on my way to work.

The billboard was fixed to the side of
a semi detached house.
It did nothing in promoting the homeliness
of the property.
Yet neither did the paint job.

Baring the shabby, natural look,
the naked brown, grey and red bricks were stacked
in shoddy inconsistent patterns.
The off-white chipped paint, in accordance
presumed what is underneath counts more,
and rotting wood began to rear it's ugly head.
Left of centre, propped a narrow musty door
marked with thick, black ink; number nine.

The low maintenance owners hadn't grasped
the importance of a well presented abode.
Unlike number eleven; the neighbours.
A ruled line centre of the properties
guided my eyes to the right, and to the
sunny disposition of next door.

The vibrant, yellow walls,
with paint in every crevasse were
the most visible on the street.
Not a smudge made its way onto the
fresh white window panes and door.
Amidst the citrus sheet
a pink synthetic butterfly hung,
and below, an empty basket waited
for spring to arrive...

Comparing the exteriors, was inevitable.
I was pondering upon the residents' persona
when I heard the horns
of impatient commuters behind me;
I was late for work.
