Runway Blues

by Kristen   Mar 15, 2007

Bare feet on the dashboard
Toes pointed toward the sky
Being blinded by the headlights
As we watch the angels fly

Listening to the radio
Sitting back in awe
They take off down the runway
So confident they can't fall

My mind begins to wander
Back to those summer nights
When nothing really mattered
Except our angels taking flight

What happened to those days
When all we had was fun
No bruised spirits or busted egos
Just always on the run

When did the world take over
Who we wanted to be
When did that person in the mirror
Turn into someone that wasn't me

Our vision became distorted
As we grew in age
We used to be so wild and free
Why the sudden change

The world's opinion never mattered
Nothing held us back
We lived to watch our angels
Appear down on the track

We had no idea things would change
So young and so naive
Thinking all would stay the same
And our confidence would never leave

Watching them take off
Against a fading sky
Wanting them to take me back
Into those summer nights

Now we sit in silence
Thinking up an alibi
Tonight we'd do almost anything
Just to watch those angels fly
