Life In the Fast Lane

by Daz Mellow   Mar 19, 2007

Yesterday's gone like the moon during the day.
Can't ask for it back now that you've used up all the time.
Now you're just waiting for tomorrow to come,
When the sunlight shines in through your windowpane,
It'll be the signal for you, to be on your way.

Wake up in the morning, you brush your teeth.
Throw on some clothes and go downstairs to eat,
Tripped over the bags you packed the night before.
Moms in the kitchen frying some eggs, and
She puts one down for you on your favorite plate.
The proud smile on her face,
You know shes holding back some tears.
The next thing you know, Daddy's by you with a smile,
He gives you a one armed hug and whispered,
Daddy's little girl, you're growing up fast,
Seems just like yesterday you were crawling up those steps.
Now you're gonna walk out the door.
Man, now that you're on your way,
I'll miss those days.

Your bags in the trunk of your 2000 Chevrolet, and
You hug them both goodbye as a,
Tear ran down from the corner of your eye.
You wonder whats going to happen next,
Cause you're moving to life in the fast lane.

3 years gone by and there's not a day,
You didn't write or call your folks up on the phone.
You'd tell them that everything is just fine, even when they're not,
But the one thing you'd always say is.
Mommy and Daddy, dint you worry,
I'm pretty well off and I'm not short on money,
I have more than enough just to get me through.
But this place feels pretty empty and I get pretty lonely,
Sometimes I wish you guys were here with me.
I guess I should say, I'm missing you.
Don't forget to tell Grandma that I miss her,
And tell all my friends that I'll see them soon.
Now I'm just living life in the fast lane.
Ooh, Life in the fast lane.

Hung up the phone and you lay back on your bed,
You think about tomorrow and the day after that,
Wonder, what's going to happen and what's not.
But all you know is, wherever this road takes you,
You're gonna walk, crawl, drive, and do whatever it takes,
Just to get yourself and the dreams that you have,
To where you want it to be.
And then you can slow down for a bit,
Before you take off again.
