The Darkened Window

by xXx Allison xXx   Mar 20, 2007

A slender figure in her snowy gown
the cool breeze drifting through her dark hair
her skin is almost as pale as her dress
reflecting the dim glow of the cold, glaring moon
the icy air about her goes unnoticed
her eyes are cloudy, and lost

Shoes stepping lightly on the cold, hard ground
breath comes short, or not at all
those deep, dark eyes look only ahead
but what is the dark angel's purpose?
she is nearly transparent, like a ghost
a shell of what once was a human

The bushes rustle and whisper
passing on the news of the dark angel's arrival
trees shudder and groan
as though they, too, dread what comes next
every shadow beckons and calls
their cold grasp overpowering all thoughts

A great wall looms just ahead
from one end to the other
there are doors and windows
some doors are open, full of light
still more open to darkness and dread
a flash of metal, and gentle music

A light comes into the angel's eyes
her pace is quickened with her new hope
the white of her skirt billows behind her
just as she reaches a door, it is shut
her face goes paler still, as she turns
but other doors have also been closed

A mocking chortle is heard overhead
jeering faces appear in every window
the young woman's eyes are pools of fear
desperately she tries each lit door
in anger she turns to the windows
but each is quickly closed in her face

There is one window still open
light pours from its open frame
a single face glowers from above
eagerly the dark angel climbs the wall
her pale, transparent face is shining
a hand reaches out and turns the blinds

A cry of despair escapes the angel's lips
her fingers slide slowly from the wall
tears of inner pain freeze to her cheeks
her eyes ever on the darkened window
her dark hair waves in farewell
then her pale body crumples to the ground

Her unseeing eyes stare into her future
the window that used to be bright
people laughed, poked, and hurt
the pain was too much to bear
a small window was her only hope
but now she looks on a darkened window.

OMG! im sooo glad u posted this poem! i love it because it is so gripping and it just makes me want to keep reading to see what happens next. some quite long poems like this 1 get a tad boring half way through but this one held my attention right to the firm ending at the end.
the ending was really powerful, but sad.
this poem is full of so much feeling, i luv it so much! it was AWESOME
definitely 5/5 (i wish i could rate higher lol)
