Tainted inocence

by *Danielle*   Mar 24, 2007

As daylight creeps over the misty distance,
They wonder: where had that little girl gone?
Filled with childish smiles and laughter,
She disappeared at the crack of dawn.

In another time, another universe perhaps,
In a secluded place an infinity away.
A garden bathed in golden sunshine,
That little girl is there to stay.

But like a mourner veiled in black,
Scattering the sky with ashes and dust,
That little girl departs this world forever.
Her innocence decays to rust.

In her place stood a statue,
Too hardened by life's woes to cry.
The breeze entwined with her long hair,
As if bidding: goodbye, goodbye . . .

The little girl knew no evil.
Her replacement fights the demons of her past.
But the little girl had ceased to exist.
Broken down by fate's icy blast.

The statue that took the little girl's place,
She's too frosty, too cold.
Whose face reflected a young woman,
But her heart much too old.

She had seen all there is to see.
Heard all that's worthy of her ears.
She lives as a drifting, emotionless spirit,
Held prisoner by her inner fears.

Do not shed your tears for her,
For they will go to waste.
Think of her as dead and gone,
Broken by the evil she had once faced.

Do not remember her,
Or what she has now become.
Let her drift away in silence,
Until her emotions are frozen and numb.

Instead, remember the little girl,
So filled with mischief and fun.
Think of her carefree laughter,
Playing under the sun.

Remember the way it was,
Before tragedy befell.
Recall the time when happiness was near,
Until her heaven became her hell.

Maybe someday in the distance,
She'll piece together the shards broken.
And remember the hopeful years,
All the promises and goals unspoken.

Until then she will remain a corpse,
A lightless, long-dead star.
With the little girl beyond the waters,
Waving farewell from afar.
