Marvelous Addictions

by Iola   Apr 1, 2007

Cocaine, prescriptions, vodka and you,
Are plucked from the tree of addictions.
Disguising the reality of what's truly true,
Playing games with my heart's deepest convictions.

Caffeine, cholesterol and slices of cake,
Doctors warn us against their effect.
Like you, they turn out to be a dangerous fake,
That cause a loss in self-dignity and respect.

Blue-berry pie and strawberry cream,
By the looks of it amazingly nice!
But as soon as you taste and get scooped by this dream,
You suddenly realize that they come with a price.

Nicotine, headache pills and sweet red wine,
All provide extraordinary but temporary relief.
Just when I thought you can truly be mine,
I realize that you take more than you give..
