Lay on the Mantle for me

by Romancing the Darker Side   Apr 9, 2007

I'm sorry, dear, that I was so cruel
Now that you're missing, I am the fool
I'm terrified that you endured pain
Just so I could be a little vain

Teasing, destructing, even though you couldn't understand me
I made it so hard for you to accept me as family
When we got you, I promised, I would love you forever
Your smelly breath, claws, and collar of leather

As your sickness set in and your legs gave out
Only Mother could cry, only she could shout
We didn't understand, we thought you'd be here for a while
What we didn't understand, was that we were in denial

It killed you in a week, this terrible disease
No surgery could be done, the vet wasn't pleased
We cried for hours, it just didn't make sense
Your disease was brought upon you at our expence

As you are now gone, please do me a favor?
Sample a bone of every flavor
Stay in your little box, carved from a tree
And Precious Savanah, lay on the mantle for me
