Prayer for the Day

A tear rolled down her cheek
as she watched people go by
she got more than just a peek
of the dark, black sky

People ran and people screamed
she didn't know what to do
all this she never dreamed
it was all just too new

She lost her mother
her sister too
She lost her brother
what if this happened to you?

The hurricane destroyed it all
took her home away
so to her knees she did fall
to say her prayer for the day

She prayed for the birds and the trees
and for the people big and small
she prayed for the bugs and the leaves
she prayed for them all

Today she's still out there
without her family to care
and all she can do is watch and stare
at the world that was so unfair.
