Shining Star

by Kyle Winge   Apr 18, 2007

The sky is filled with twinkling lights,
He longs for her for four long nights,
She is all that is on his mind, as he writes.
He knows the words, but doesnâ??t know how to express them,
He wants love, but she just wants to befriend him,
Sheâ??s in a dark place, but wants to come back to him.
He asks himself when her sadness will end,
But knows in his heart, there is no hand he can lend,
To help her out of her sorrow,
Heâ??s hoping and praying sheâ??ll be better tomorrow.

Sheâ??s sitting on the bathroom floor with a gash in her wrist,
Tears flowing down her face, clutching her fist.
The tears are not of pain, but of loneliness,
Always asking God, what had she done to deserve this?
She stops crying long enough to speak a soft prayer,
â??Dear Lord, no more do I want to care,
I feel that no one wants to love me,
I just want to rest my eyesâ?¦ for eternity.â??
And there, right where she lay,
Her eyes shut and she begins to fade.

It is late when he gets the news,
That sheâ??s fighting for her life; heâ??s hoping she doesnâ??t lose.
The doctor says sheâ??s in critical condition, and there he drops to his knees,
â??Lord, hear my plea,
Can you not see
How much she means to me?
Please, give her the strength to fight,
Help her make it through the night.
Iâ??ll never ask you for anything ever again,
But please Lord, donâ??t let me lose my friend.â??

She is motionless when he comes in,
He sits beside her, grabs her hand and kisses her soft, pale skin.
She clutches his hand and gives a little sigh,
He looks up as she begins to cry.
â??Iâ??m sorry, for what I have done,
I was in darkness, with nowhere to run.
In the dark I heard a voice,
It said, to come back to him was my only choice.
Thank you for not giving up on me,
I felt you were with me in my time of need.â??

He looks up, with tears in his eyes,
He canâ??t go on without telling her how he feels inside, so he cries,
â??I will always be here,
To soften a blow, or catch a tear.
We could separate, but it doesnâ??t matter how far,
I will look up into the sky and you will be my shining star.
I donâ??t know what I would do,
If I ever lost you,
Now, I can tell no more lies,
No one has ever touched me in the way that you have.

Itâ??s been three years since that tragic night,
Unfortunately she lost the fight.
Itâ??s been hard for him to cope with the loss,
But around his neck, is her cross.
He takes it with him wherever he goes,
It catches his tears and it softens his blows.
When he gets lost, he looks up at the sky at night,
And searches, for the brightest light.
He knows he can go long and far,
But that light will always and forever, be his shining star.
