A Love Memento

by LostLikeTearsInRain   Apr 18, 2007

Face down
He lays on his bed
No words can describe
What's going through his head

His mom opens his door
"Dinner's ready" she says
"Not hungry" is his reply
He's startled by the blankness in his own voice

As he hears the door close
Two tears stream down his face
He closes his eyes
Hoping to cut off the flow

That only makes his eyes sting
As the salt builds up
He is forced once more
To open them to reality

He turns his head
Towards the door to his closet
Sucking back tears
He wills himself to look

What lies behind this door
Is the present his love gave him
Just a lame teddy bear
That she had sprayed with her perfume

No, it was so much more than a stuffed bear
It was the only thing that remained of her
As well as her beautiful love

He can't even stand to look at it
Because it gives him dark thoughts
Of suicide and a final end
To this life of sadness he now leads

So he keeps his distance
From this symbol of love
Still hoping he can hold HER again
Instead of this stupid teddy bear
