The Experience of Weight

by Chelsea Rae   Apr 23, 2007

The mirror is her worst friend
Yet the only one that tells the truth
This image she saw was a shell of disgust
A girl with rolls and curves to boost

Clothes rip and her eyes tear
Sobs of hate and jealousy and fear

Why her?

The mirror doesn't care for her
Sometimes she even hears it laugh
Above the jokes from the outside world
The rejection from society at its worst

Buttons pop and her eyes tear
Sobs of wishing, wanting someone here

Why her?

The mirror mocks her, tells her

"You will never change"

And she believes it because
That's all she has ever known

She will hide in her shadows
And in the silence of the night
For the day is for beauty
And her weight is not right

"Right" by society that is,
For it has the power to shape young minds
Into self hate and loathe of their bodies

And so the girl cried,
And spoke to her reflection,

"This mirror is society's best friend,
And I am at it's mercy till the day I die"
