Vault of Plague

by Lanaia Lee   May 6, 2007

Why have you condemned me to death, in this place of darkness and pain?
What gives you the right to think you are better than me?
But because you are richer, you are better? Aren't we human? Equal and the same?
Gosh have some mercy! I know you hear my plea

Everyone here, dying and sick, things here look very bleak
Just once more, I would like to fell the sun's warmth on my face
But never again, since you condemn me to the darkness and the deep
Listen! Hear our pain! Don't leave us to die in this dark, damp place.

Above us, at times, we hear of the wealthy go on
For a moment, we imagine what it would be like
Escaping for a moment, to another place, forgetting the darkness and not feeling so alone
Me thinking, Why one can't understand? We are both human, making us very much alike.

But, down here, you just couldn't forget the misery and pain
Edinburgh, the great city, that has stood for so long
The longer one stays here, well from that nothing will be gained
To the city above, all of us belong.

Everyone within these vaults, sick with plague, watching as so many die
Never feeling safe, in this man made mass grave
Condemned to die, us knowing as to the reason why
But we bide our time, as we try to remain positive and brave.

Within these dark damp vaults, just about everyone, will sooner or later die
But our voices will forever cry, because of the pain and agony that we had to endure
We want justice, we want others to know our fate and as to why
Now our spirits are free, but the plague, never again would our bodies be pure.
