The Moon

by Saul   May 10, 2007

I lay here in the cold wet grass and stare intently
at the Moon. I become entranced as the crickets
sing their age old song. Thoughts and images flash
through my mind. I'm a little girl who has fallen ill,
a heart broken lover with tear stained cheeks, a tired
warrior resting by a fire, a man in an environmental suit,
a stalker just outside a house. This keeps happening as
I become one person after another from all aspects of
the world - past, present and future. I then realize that all these people looked upon or will look upon this very Moon at their most critical point in their life. The Moon - the one thing that has witnessed the secrets of the night.
The Moon a quiet writer of the events that unfold beneath It reflects upon Its face. The moon starts to get larger and larger until I realize that it's not getting larger rather that my soul is floating closer to it.
I realize now that my physical self has expired and I no
longer feel the wet grass nor hear the Song of the crickets. I merge with the Moon and feel that there are
others with me. I cannot see them but I sense them.
My view shifts from the Moon back toward the Earth.
I am at peace. I see everything - the past, present and future. I see the creation, the existence and the extinction of what the Moon has seen and will see. I even see my shell upon the wet grass. I realize what I and the others are doing here....we are waiting for The
Story to end.

Great imagery. When I was reading this poem I felt as though instead of staring at a computer screen I was there looking at the moon and listening to the words as. I. floated up to greet the moon. Great work it really drew me in. You'll have to write more some time.

A very captivating poem. I loved how I felt as though I was there watching over the Earth as this was happening.
