Implications

by ari   May 12, 2007

Insomnia and fear,
pain and lust,
restlessness and loss.
She's lost within her own intricate web,
fighting to find a purpose,
a reason for her sleepless nights
and tear-stained pillows.
Dancing in the rain, it doesn't help,
her painted smile, it does not wash away.
Trying to be someone --something--
meaningful, but only finding cobwebs
and empty corners of lost inspiration.
She needs a release,
a sweet abandon,
a reason to erase the red, garish paint
that hides her sentiments and affection;
affection that is yet to be directed.
Sleeping pills and late-night binges,
alcohol and parties,
and walking home alone.
She can't hide behind a whirl of useless activity,
and she can't escape behind the layers of smoke,
and can't walk away before the averted eyes notice.
Searching for a reason,
scrounging for a sign.
She's lost within her own fabricated world,
full of false eyelashes and sequined wraps
that hide the reasons why no one's happy.
They're all searching;
searching for themselves in stereotypes and lies.
Implications of who or what they should be.
